Past form of finnish verb

Ist group verbs (puhua - puhun - puhut - puhuu - puhumme - puhutte - puhuvat)
2nd verbs group (syöda - syö - syön - syöt - syö - syömme - syötte - syövät)
3rd verb group (tulla - tule - tulen - tulet - tulee - tulemme - tulette - tulevat)
4th verb group (vastata - vastaa - vastaan - vastaat - vastaa - vastaamme - vastaatte - vastaavat)
5th verb group (tarvita - tarvitse - tarvitsen - tarvitset - tarvitsee - tarvitsemme - tarvitsette - tarvitsevat)

Normal rules to make past form is jsut add I at ending of (infectional)stem verb.
eg. puhu + i + n -> puhuin

Ist, 2nd, 3rd and 5th verb group = infectional stem + -I-

a) Infectional stem ends with -o, ö, u, y -> no change

katso - katso/n - katsoin
nukkua - kuku/n - nukuin
kysyä - kysy/n - kysin

b) The final vowel disappears when the infectional stem ends in -ä, -e, or i

pitää - pidä/n - pidin, hän piti
lukea - lue/n - luin, hän luki
mennä - mene/n - menin

c) If some stem ends with -a, and word is two syllable with first syllable with -a then stem change the last vowel into -o

antaa - anna/n - annoin
maksaa - maksa/n - maksoin
kantaa(to carry) - kanna/n - kannoin

--Otherwise -a will disappear

ostaa - osta/n - ostin
rakastaa - rakasta/n - rakastin
saada - saa - sain

The second group verb that have the diphtohong ie. uo or yö at the end of the stem:
the first vowel of the diphthong is dropped away.

juoda - juo/n - join
syöda - syö/n - söin

For some special case: Käydä - käyn - kävin - hän kävi

The 4th verb group = infectional stem -a/-ä + -si

pelata - pelaa/n - pelasin
haluta - halua /n - halusin
meluta(to make noise) - melua/n melusin

note: some verbs of hte ist verb group also act like this,
for eg. tietää - tiedä/n - tiesin
piirtää (to draw) - piirrä/n - piirsin, hän piirsi

Grand father ---> isöisä (pappa, ukki, vaari..)
Grand mother ---> isoäiti (mummi, mummo, mamma...)

Husband ---> aviomies
Married --> naimisissa

Sister --> sisko
brother ---> veli

Child ---> lapsi
